Sherman Industries was originally founded in 1935 as Sherman Concrete Pipe Company. Today, Sherman is one of the largest and most diversified producers and suppliers of concrete and concrete products in the world and Alabama’s oldest concrete distributor. In the fall of 2003, Sherman Industries was looking for innovative ways to improve safety awareness and education. The ultimate goal was to cut down on loss time accidents. With hundreds of employees located all around the state this was no easy task.
JDA Promo’s visual safety recognition program was implemented at Sherman Industries in 2003 as part of their overall safety program and has been a part of their initiative since that time. Each year our team and Sherman managers select logoed merchandise that would be desired by and useful to their employees. Visual posters displaying the award items and goals are distributed to all locations and placed in prominent employee gathering spaces. At the end of each qualifying period, awards are purchased and awarded to employees who meet their goals. Each employee works hard to achieve their goals because they are excited to receive recognition for working safe. In addition to improved workplace safety, Sherman has the added benefit of their brand being identified on those awards.
