First impressions matter, both in life and business. A nice welcome gift (often referred to as an onboarding kit) gives new employees and members a sneak peek into your company values and culture. (Not to mention, everyone likes free stuff, right?!) So what type of businesses routinely use welcome kits? Better yet, how do you know if YOUR company needs an onboarding kit or program of your own? If you answer yes to any of the following questions, then you might be ready to implement an onboarding program.
#1: Do you add 24 or more new employees each year?
For small business owners with only a few new hires each year, it might be no problem to pull together a simple gift every now and again. However, if you’re hiring more than 24 people a year, you might want to consider a custom onboarding kit. It doesn’t have to be complicated, and we promise to work with you every step of the way to create a welcome gift that reflects your brand, culture and values. I recently worked with a client who had a specific budget for new hire gifts. We put together a simple gift box with a company-branded tumbler and t-shirt, plus a decal with their company logo. Our warehouse team assembled the kits and the client will store and distribute to new hires in the field.
#2: Does your business have multiple locations?
If you don’t want to deal with shipping to multiple locations, our online stores offer a hassle-free solution. We house all of your new hire materials in our 10,000 square foot warehouse, and assemble and ship kits on demand. This frees up your HR department to focus on other aspects of the onboarding process, like training, setting up benefits, etc. Check out this case study where we used an online store to supply new employee welcome boxes for a bank with multiple branches in the Southeast. For this program, we actually ship out a branded kit to each new hire along with a gift certificate to purchase additional items from the online store. (Bonus: This eliminates the need for HR to collect sizes, and gives the individual freedom to choose from apparel or other branded items.)
#3: Does your business model include monthly or annual memberships?
The first thing that comes to mind is a gym or fitness center, but plenty of other businesses and groups work with a membership model, too. Chambers of Commerce, for example, or other civic groups also rely on memberships as a primary part of their business model. What better way to welcome new members than with a gift that reflects your goals and values? We can create a custom kit for you, or make it super easy with a pre-fab kit that just needs your logo to make it complete.
Examples of Industry-Specific Kits:
- Gyms/Fitness Centers: This gym-necessities kit includes a fitness towel, earbuds, cell phone wallet and antibacterial wipes, plus a clear amenities bag. It’s great as is, but pair it with a cinch pack or gym bag and a water bottle, and you’ve got an impressive custom gift set!
- Chamber of Commerce or other business networking group: This Executive-on-the-go Kit features a cell phone wallet, power bank charger, USB car charger, microfiber cloth, cleaning spray and bag with 1.625″ gusset. (Ask us about upgrading to a vintage metal lunchbox instead of the bag!)
- Golf Courses: Welcome new members to the green with this tumbler deluxe golf kit, which includes a 24 ounce tumbler with lid, lip balm, sunglasses, three balls, six tees, one divot tool, and a poker chip.
#4: Are you an institution that enrolls new students at least once a year?
Whether it’s a preschool, private education or collegiate-level learning, new students and families need a warm welcome, too! Include useful items like a custom calendar that notes holidays and other important dates, tek books with a campus map printed on the booklet and even plush versions of the school mascot! Check out this case study where we actually worked with a multi-site daycare/preschool to create welcome kits for new infants. The initial program worked so well that we have since created a complete onboarding program for all new families that enroll at one of their campuses.
