2020 Year in Review: Looking Back with Gratitude

For most of us, 2020 turned out much differently than we expected. Despite challenges like no other, we’ve still found a lot to be grateful for this year, and that’s what we’ve chosen to highlight in our 2020 Year in Review. On behalf of everyone at Team JDA, we want to thank you for continuing to partner with us during this challenging year. Hope is on the horizon and better days are ahead. We look forward to working with you in 2021 and wish you a happy and prosperous New Year! Here’s a look at some of our favorite moments from 2020.

We hosted our annual Spring Product Showcase in February.

This showcase ended up being one of our favorite themes: “Life is Sweet”. We had colorful swag bags, t-shirts, and all the fun goodies!

To support essential businesses, JDA remained operational during the Spring Stay at Home Order.

2020 year in review
Even with the stay at home orders, our team not only had a positive attitude, but we continued to work hard and have fun!
During Alabama’s Stay at Home order, JDA’s warehouse and production facilities remained open (following CDC guidelines) to continue serving our essential business partners. Our sales team already works remotely and our front-office staff shifted to working from home during that time. Like so many others, we developed some pretty strong Zoom skills, too. (For more ideas on how to maximize branding during Zoom calls, check out this blog post.)

JDA joined the rest of the promo industry in a major pandemic pivot.

Prior to 2020, aside from hand sanitizer, PPE never crossed our radar as a product option. When the pandemic hit, the promotional products industry swiftly adapted to our clients’ needs and began manufacturing non-medical grade PPE products. Suppliers who normally produced t-shirts and giveaways for events shifted gears and started providing masks, privacy guards, and other PPE.

A brand new market was born within the promo product industry. JDA vets the best options and shares those with our clients. (We care about your safety, which is why we partner only with top-notch suppliers for face coverings and other PPE.)

We went all-in on custom care kits, designed to ship straight to your front door.

As the year went on, many people continued to work from home instead of going into the office. Our team got creative and started designing custom care kits that our clients could ship directly to their employees and customers at home. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback on these projects, with reports of improved morale and employee engagement.

Our team celebrated new beginnings with weddings and babies!

Account Executive Laney Yarchak officially adopted sweet Violet on May 8 after 28 months in foster care. Production manager John Porter married his beautiful bride, Haley, on September 12 at the historic Hoover Randle House in Hoover, AL. Zach Brooks, a long-time employee on our Accounting team, wed his lovely wife, Jada, at Rockhurst Farm in Wilsonville, AL on November 14. Of course, everyone at Team JDA is totally in love with sweet baby Bobby, who was born to our Purchasing Manager, Sarah Otwell, and her husband Trae, on June 29.

The legacy of Junior Davis lives on as we move into a new year.

On Friday, December 4, 2020, our beloved founder, William A. Davis Jr. “Junior” went to be with Jesus after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Junior started Junior Davis & Associates out of the trunk of his car in 1979, after years of helping other people run their businesses. (For more on how JDA began and how we got to where we are today, check out our very first blog post.)

When Junior retired in 2013, his daughters Kelly Vandiver and Gena Mueller took over the company, leading us into a new season of growth and opportunity. His legacy lives on in us, and Junior’s commitment to working hard and loving people will always be at the core of how we do business.
